Quick answer: Fields of Mistria has 12 romance candidates plus non-romance residents, children, animals, and recurring vendors. Use this page to identify a character; use the romance guide to compare dating routes and the gift guide to choose an item.

All romance candidates

The standard routes can be advanced through conversation, gifts, heart events, Dating status, proposal, and marriage. Candidate availability and story requirements are not identical, so follow the linked guide when a heart event does not trigger.

Town residents and families

These characters are not marriage candidates, but they have schedules, dialogue, birthdays, gift preferences, requests, and roles in town events. Friendship still matters: it reveals more dialogue and can be required for personal quest chains.

Saturday Market and recurring vendors

Repairing the bridge unlocks the Saturday Market. Vendors rotate into a predictable weekly slot, but several also enter later quest or town-rank progression. Treat the market as part of a Saturday route rather than assuming every seller is available every day.

How character progression works

Talk to a character regularly, give at most one gift per day, and watch for heart-event requirements. A high heart total does not force an event to play immediately: the event can also require the correct time, place, weather, previous event, quest state, or story milestone.

For romance candidates, the broad path is:

  1. Build friendship through conversation, gifts, and town events.
  2. Complete the 2-heart, 4-heart, and 6-heart events in order.
  3. At 8 hearts, make the relationship choice and enter Dating status if you choose romance.
  4. Continue to 10 hearts and complete the proposal event.
  5. Craft or obtain the Engagement Ring, propose, marry, and unlock family progression.

Open romance candidates and dating for route comparison. The /characters page is deliberately the complete cast directory, while /romance answers the separate search intent of whom and how to date.

Finding a character on the map

The map and Social menu are the fastest current-location checks. Schedules change with weather, festivals, heart events, and story progression. If a character is absent from a normal shop location, check their home, the inn during social hours, or the festival area before assuming the route is blocked.

Character guide FAQ

How many romance candidates are there?

There are 12 current romance candidates: ten standard town routes and two story-linked routes whose identities and access conditions can be spoilers.

Is Olric romanceable?

No. Olric is a giftable town resident but not a romance candidate.

Can non-romance characters receive gifts?

Yes. Residents, children, several animals, and recurring vendors have gift preferences once they are available in the Social menu.

Why did a heart event not trigger?

Confirm that the previous event is complete, then verify the required heart level, location, time, weather, weekday, and story state. The individual character guide should be used after those general checks.
